Cloudy with a chance of cantaloupes! With the warm summer temperatures farmers markets are just filling our kitchens with fresh produce. This week I received a head up on a new bumper crop that is heading to market. It simple said one thing, Expect the first wide spread appearance of Cantaloupes late this week and into next.
If you remember, last year's cold and wet weather really hindered vine crops but this summer brought high heat, humidity and the complete opposite results. Lots of sun means high natural sugars which will make most vine crops very special. In short, vine crops love this weather. In fact, we seem to be one week away from Watermelons - If watermelons do come in, they'll be close to 2-3 weeks earlier than normal, giving us an extended season.
